About Our Library

Several years ago, the Washington Hebrew Congregation planted the seeds that would become our new state-of-the-art library. Washington Hebrew Congregation donated books, furniture and volunteers to help modernize our outdated library. Then, in 2008, Heart of America contacted our principal, Dr. Adelaide Flamer, about the possibility of completely renovating our library as they had done for several other schools. Dr. Flamer jumped at the opportunity, and a visit was scheduled. A decision, Heart of America informed her, would be made in three weeks. The librarian at the time, Regina Mack, couldn't say enough about how deserving Simon was; and after hearing her enthusiastic endorsement of the school and its library program, the decision to choose Simon was made almost immediately. Heart of America brought together Target, MTV, and the DC Public Schools Improvement Team to completely transform the library. Then Target and Toyota generously donated the books that would become apart of one of the best school library collections in the city.

About Our School

We are a part of the District of Columbia Public School System (DCPS). At Simon Elementary School we are dedicated to serving our students in preschool through 6th grade. Our mission is to prepare all students to be responsible citizens and to equip them with the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to lead to meaningful and productive lives. Located in Southeast DC, our faculty and staff work extremely hard to ensure that our students are successful both inside and outside the classroom. We are committed to providing a high-quality education for all of our students and constantly seek to help our students develop academically and socially in a challenging, caring environment.

Our Online Catalog

Access to our catalog, Destiny, is restricted to individuals who are within the DCPS network. At this time, DCPS DOES NOT provide at-home access to it's library catalogs.
